of time. >> good morning, i'm jennifer franciotti. it is 7:26. here's a look at some of our top stories for you. in baltimore city, a fight between two family members turned deadly. officers were called just before 8:00 last night to the 1000 block of north stricker street in west baltimore for a fight between her aunt and her niece. the injuries to the aunt were so bad she was taken to the hospital where she later died. police are still investigating this case. >> three people are recovering after being stabbed onboard an m.t.a. bus. it happened around 2:30 at liberty heights in northwest avenue near the mall. a fight broke out on bus number 51 which left three people with stab wounds. >> the bus driver brought the bus to rest here outside the mall. there were people here scheduled for their regular after-school duty, and people were unloading the bus, and the officers were able to board the bus and get the officers off. >> all three victims were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive. police are continuing to investigate. >> in a separate stabbing incident, police are loo

shot her. >> reporter: that woman has been identified as 38-ye-old jennifer bates of nokesville. her assailant, her husband, robert bates. police say the couple had been rguing in this vehicle before it turned on to idewater way. an officer had been walking his dog, unarmed himself he confronted the armed man whom witnesses sayointed his gun at him. he retreated to retrieve his own weapon but then -- >> another shot rang out. and that was it. he killedhimself. >> reporter: it all happened quickly and neighbors had already called police. >> units arrived on scene. they located two individuals who appeared to have been suffering from gunshot wounds. the gunshot wounds were all upper body. the male was pronounced dead at the scene. the female was showing signs of life and was transported to the hospital wher she was pronounced. >> reporter: what remains a puzzle to investigators and residents of this community is hy these two people chose this street. those who live here know that it's a cul-de-sac. it doesn't go all the way through and neither of these victims are believed to have any

a long discussion before the program started. during that conversation, jennifer, dave and judy convince me that we should create a group like mothers against drunk driving. the idea would be a national advocacy group devoted to ending distracted driving. that was born in the studios of cnn. during the year since, jennifer, dave, judy and other members have travelled the country doing important and inspiring work, putting a human face on a terrible problem. at last year's summit, we learned that distracted driving is an epidemic. it is an epidemic because everyone has a cell phone, and everyone thinks they can use it while driving. you all know this. if i asked for a show of hands -- which i am not going to do [laughter] -- i know that everyone of you has a self done. and i also know that everyone has used it while driving. do not deny it. we are hooked on it. that is why it is an epidemic. there is no bigger distraction than people on a cell phone or people texting and driving. there is not. you cannot drive safely doing that. i want to say a special word of thanks to the chief of polic
